Buffy Summers and her mother Joyce move to Sunnydale, a small town in Southern California. Buffy was kicked out of her old school, well, because she burnt down the gymnasium.

Buffy soon gets to know some of the kids who go to school with her: there is Willow Rosenberg, a shy and picked upon redhead and there is Xander Harris, a stuttery lively guy who seems to have an instant crush on Buffy.

But there is also the weird stuffy librarian, Rupert Giles, who seems to know a lot, including the undead. Buffy soon discovers that her past quickly catches up with her: she is the one, the Slayer, a girl who hunts vampires and demons and she is needed as the first victim is found dead in a locker.

Unwilling to accept her role, Buffy soon has to face the fact that there IS no escape. Vampires are everywhere in Sunnydale and they try to open "the mouth of hell".
